Alright, normally I don't sit around writing journals, but I really feel like this needs to be said and clarified.
Very recently, I found a fanfiction that I enjoy immensely. It has multiple endings, and several of those endings are what fanfiction writers and readers refer to as "lemons." Basically, that means porn.
Anyway, the writer of this fanfiction, who I'm not going to state because calling them out on a journal is plain rude, posted one of the lemons as a moderate Mature Content, which is better than nothing, and it didn't get removed. That's cool. However, the next lemon they posted, apparently using the same MC setting, was removed. Now they're simply uploading little bits of text with links to the story elsewhere.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but there is a legitimate reason why this happened.
First, watch the video below. It covers another important and related topic, and will help me make my point.
Alright, you watched it, right?
Well, if you just skipped over it, whatever. The point in the video is that REGARDLESS of the Age of Consent where you live (at least in the US, this may not be true in other countries, but I would tread very lightly on this subject), you should not be roleplaying smut until you are 18. Roleplaying porn is effectively being in porn, in the eyes of the law. I had a friend get in major trouble for this. He was 18, his girlfriend was not, she got caught, blah blah blah. He didn't get labeled as a sex offender, and he is DAMN LUCKY that he didn't.
So how is that related to fanfiction and the MC tag?
Guys, if you're writing lemons, you need to be mindful about what exactly you're writing and posting. Lemons are porn. Limes are much more light and don't need to be Mature Content tagged (unless they almost cross into the lemons category, then I'd tread carefully), but lemons are porn. You should not be viewing porn until you are 18 years of age. It does not matter what medium that porn comes in, whether fanfiction, original fiction, videos, pictures, it literally does not matter. The medium does not change the fact that the content is pornographic, and therefore illegal for people under 18.
That is why dA took down that particular fanfiction's lemon: it was not properly tagged in accordance with FAQ #220: What is Mature Content? or dA's Terms of Service, which I am 99% sure very few of you actually read. Posting smut alone is already technically a violation of the Terms, however, the lines have been severely blurred with literature, and as a general rule of conduct, lemons can pass through with an 18+ (strict) tag. Plenty of lemons also pass through with only a moderate tag, which makes me cringe.
Okay, here's the TL;DR: by improperly mature content marking lemons, you are effectively providing pornography to minors. That is >ILLEGAL<. There is nothing stopping you from making an account that will get you through the filter, however, keep in mind that you are endangering the writer AND YOURSELF if ANYONE who has some sort of authority finds out about the minor reading the lemon. dA polices visual and literary art as best as they can to try and prevent this distribution of pornographic material to improper audiences, but not everything gets caught.
This has been a Public Service Announcement for Writers. Thank you for reading.

Excuse me while I rise from the dead
Is anyone still here?
It's been over 4 years. In those 4 years, I graduated high school, and next fall will be a senior in college. I found out I have Bipolar Disorder type 1, and am in much better shape than I was in 2014.
I haven't written fanfic in a really long time. I got burned out, which is part of the reason I left for so long. But I think I'll be getting back on the fanfiction train, especially XReaders, but this time with Stardew Valley.
Uh... yeah. Also I figured out I was trans and ended up changing my name to Sebastian and starting medical transition, so that's fun.
Hope to see some of you around still!
Contrary to my activity level...
...I AM actually alive. Right now I'm loaded down almost completely with school, and I haven't been able to get on dA because of my workload (*glares at the pile of homework to my right*)
If you have requests out, they're finished, but not posted. If the lesson plans I'm seeing from my teachers don't change, I'll have time to post everything in a literature dump in a week or two. :worried:
Byezeez for now :P
Tagged~
I was tagged by the lovely ~infinitydust (https://www.deviantart.com/infinitydust), go check out her work if you enjoy mine :)
Rules
1. Must post the rules here!
2. Each person must share 10 things about them.
3. Answer the 10 questions, then invent your own.
4. Choose 10 people and put their icons on your journal (But since rules are made to be broken, I'm not gonna tag 10 because stubborn, I'll tag 5 :XD:).
5. No tag backs
6. You can't say you don't do tags (well, actually you can, since rules are meant to be broken).
7. YOU MUST MAKE A JOURNAL ENTRY NOT A COMMENT!!
The Facts
1. Chicken nuggets are one of my favorite foods.
2. I have legitimate trouble telling whet
Apologies
I took an unexpected hiatus recently because of school related reasons, aka summer reading. I still have some things to worry about in that department, but I'm going to be somewhat gone for different reasons.
For the past few days, I haven't been in a good headspace because of some relationship issues. Long distance, even temporary, absolutely sucks, and it just about wrecked my relationship. We're still going, but I'm struggling a lot more than is healthy.
While trying to get into a better headspace, I'll still be getting through the proofreading queue, because writing helps me deal with literally anything and everything bad. However, upda

Without knowing the specifics of the deviations I can't give you an exact answer specific to this case, however I can tell you that we don't remove art because a strict tag isn't applied. We only require a general mature content tag on mature content, we never require users to add a strict tag in. The strict tag is there simply for the artists wishes, we never forcibly tag anything as strict. We don't remove art that doesn't have any mature content tag on it, if a deviation requires a mature content tag then we will tag the deviation.
If this deviation was removed while another was not, it's because the deviation was explicit or graphic in it's depiction of sexual elements. We treat literature deviations the same way as we do visual deviations. That means that if a deviation talks about erections, penetration, masturbation and so on, it's considered a policy violation. Like with visual deviations in literature deviations there is a difference between implicit and explicit description. This may be the difference between talking about a hand being placed somewhere or describing what the hand is doing.
